I don’t want to lose my job over this. Can I still use cannabis therapy? Well, we’re going to answer that question today. Hi. I’m Dr. Dan Stein, Neurology of Cannabis owner, board-certified neurologist and medical cannabis expert.

Oftentimes patients are concerned about getting drug-tested at work, having cannabis therapy revealed and getting fired. This is a very, very real concern because oftentimes employers in Florida have what’s called a zero tolerance policy and in Florida, cannabis users have to be careful about what their contract says and what policies are in place with their employer.

Not everyone is like that. There are some employers that are cannabis-friendly, that appreciate that patients using cannabis carefully are not impaired on the job and that they’re getting symptomatic relief.

If anything, individuals that are using other drugs like opiates can be impaired but they’re not getting fired, but I digress. The point is if you’re concerned about using cannabis therapy and you have an employer-related concern, look carefully at your contract. Consider asking your employer what exactly the policy is because you don’t want to be caught unaware.

Certainly people that work for federal agencies like the Department of Transportation, the Post Office, occupations like that that require a federal license are not allowed to use cannabis because cannabis is still not legal on a federal level.

But individuals that are living in Florida or seasonal residents of Florida that have employers that are friendly or willing and able to allow cannabis use in a careful way, certainly we can get you a card and we can guide you through your therapy.

Other states in the union have different policies but in Florida, it’s an employer-based state rather than a right to work state as it’s said. So you may have other questions or concerns. I appreciate that you’re watching this video because you want to learn and we are here to answer questions.
